College Park, MD, Ritchie Coliseum - 31.10.1982. (Thanks Mick)
This recording is slightly distant and a bit flat, but is nevertheless a good recording for the time.
The Blue Water intro is missing, but this is a minor aside. Nothing seems to be missing from the performance itself.
Annalisa seems to be a particularly short version of the song and ideed many of the songs have a bit of a rushed feeling to them. Maybe this is why they fit so many songs into barely 67 minutes. This though is not a criticism. It's actually a very interesting contrast to other shows, for example the Chicago gig from 23rd October where certains songs last up to 6 or 7 minutes. Other boots of the same length generally have only 11 or 12 songs.
There's also no lengthy gaps between songs as was this line ups wont. They go from one song straight into another!
The CDR which I have is actually 1 long track, which to be honest I prefer as it means you get the gig as it was recorded and don't have any annoying clicks or transitions between tracks, especially the dreaded 2 second gap which has to be the ultimate bane of the live bootleg.
This must be one of the very few occasions where this lineup performed Poptones. It must be said that it sounds fantastic and really should have been part of the regular set list. Jones' bass combined with Levene's guitar sounds unbelievable! The way the song segues into Chant is very reminiscent of the shows that would take place the following year with the cabaret band.
There are no tape cuts at all on this bootleg and no encores are performed. If the quality were significantly better this would be the ultimate bootleg from 1982.
