53 No 53 Seattle - 7(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: ? |
Seattle - Limited Edition 7" Box Set. (Thanks Mick)
The 7 inch box contains the following;
Seattle / Selfish Rubbish UK 7" in picture sleeve.
6cm Sew-on PiL logo patch.
1 inch "Happy?" badge.
PiL group photo postcard.
The vinyl is the standard 7" pressing of Seattle that was available to buy individually.
The contents label was stuck to the front of some issues of the box set and on the back of others.
The postcard has to be held at a certain angle towards a light source to be able to view the image properly.
55 No 55 Cruel, Ltd Edition 10inch.(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980139002 |
Cruel, Limited Edition, Individually numbered 10". (Thanks Mick).
This was the very first PiL vinyl I bought, back in 1992 from John Menzies in Airdrie. Think is cost about two quid at the time.
The sleeve is a gatefold that folds out to show pictures of the band.
My copy is numbered 5600.
The record features a live track, recorded in New York City in 1989.
56 No 56 Cruel, white label 7inch pressing.(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records, |
ISMN: ? |
Cruel, white label 7inch pressing. (Thanks Mick)
The single was published in early 1992 so it is possible that this white label was already pressed in 1991. No way to be sure though.
These white label vinyls usually turn up on ebay advertised as "test pressings" however genuine test pressings are usually only created in such small numbers (2 or 3 usually) that it wouldn't really explain the number of such vinyls on the market.
More commonly labels like Virgin etc issued these white label pressings as promo records, usually distributing them to journalists and radio stations etc. That's why they appear so often in collections and on the market.
57 No 57 Cruel, 7inch. (Vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980139071 |
Cruel, 1992 7 inch. (Thanks Mick)
This is the standard 7 inch pressing of the Cruel single.
The version that I have seems to have been used as a promo tool as it has a Virgin Records PR sticker on it with the guys name and contact details on along with a date stamp; "10 Feb 1992"
58 No 58 The Body UK 7 inch.(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980101078 |
The Body, UK 7" (Thanks Mick)
Unfortunately this was PiL's worst selling single, only reaching 100 on the UK charts. It's still my favourite song from the later 80's period.
59 No 59 Bad Life, UK 7 inch.(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: ? |
Bad Life, UK 7". (Thanks Mick)
Bad Life is a reworked version of the Commercial Zone track called "Mad Max" from 1982.
The single was released as 7" and 12". A special Ltd Edition 7" with an embossed PiL logo on the sleeve was also released. The standard 12" also featured the embossed logo.
The single charted fairly poorly and was even excluded from 1990's Greatest Hits collection.
A very crappy promo video was shot.
60 No 60 Home autopgraphed UK 7inch.(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980085576 |
Home, UK 7inch. (Thanks Mick).
This is the same 7inch that was added to the site a few months ago. John Lydon was kind enough to sign the sleeve for me after PiL's recent gig in Cardiff.
61 No 61 Public Image, German autographed 7inch..(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 100-067100 |
Publik image, autographed German 7inch. (Thanks Mick).
This is the same 7inch that was added to the site a few months ago. John Lydon was kind enough to sign the sleeve for me after PiL's recent Cardiff gig.
977 No 977 Public image - Japanese 7 inch.(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records / Nippon Columbia |
ISMN: ? |
Public image / The Cowboy Song
Japanese edition of PiL's first ever single.
Front sleeve features the "First issue" design of the UK LP and the rear sleeve features the lyrics of both songs in Japanese & English.
I bought this item on ebay in 2003. Sometimes turns up on ebay for a ridiculous price. Eil.com were selling one once for about £200. (Rock n Roll Swindle?)
979 No 979 Public image - German 7 inch.(vinyl).
Recording Label: Virgin Records |
ISMN: 100-067100 |
This is the German issue of PiL's first ever single.
The record was a hit in Germany, although the single itself is relatively hard to come by. When it appears on ebay it usually sells for a pretty hefty price.
I have two copies in my collection. The first was purchased from ebay a year ago for about £18 and the second copy was bought for only 2 euros in a second hand record store in Kiel, Germany. Quite a find!
The sleeve design is the same both front and back.
Has "made in Germany" etched onto the run-out grooves.
