912 No 912 Plastic Box (4 CD set).
Recording Label: Virgin. |
ISMN: 724384696825 |
This is a fantastic collection of sessions and remixes and 12" remixes. It comes in a 4 disc set which is in a plastic case. It also has a very good booklet with lots of information about the band and the various tracks.
913 No 913 Psycho's Path.
Recording Label: Virgin |
ISMN: 724384420925 |
This is a studio album from John Lydon it comes with various tracks which at 1st I was not to keen on but having listened to PIL live it has grown on me (some of it). It comes in a normal jewel case with an 8 page booklet which has the words for the tracks.
971 No 971 Cruel, 1992 CD single (Digipak book)
Recording Label: Virgin Records |
ISMN: 5012980139033 |
Cruel, PiL's first single from 1992's "That What Is Not" album. (Thanks to Mick)
Released as a Limited Edition, individually numbered CD Digipak book. The disc is a mix of studio takes and unreleased live material.
The booklet contains 7 pages of photos and "The wit and wisdom of Lydon" which is basically a collection of quotes from Lydon interviews over the years.
My copy is numbered: 6904
The two live tracks were recorded at the Ritz Theatre in New York City on the 16th July 1989. They are both excellent quality soundboard mixes.
The front cover is a John Lydon painting that depicts the three remaining members of PiL; John McGeoch, John Lydon & Allan Dias.
Trivia: Ted Chau, who played guitar and keyboards on the 2 live tracks didn't know that they'd been officially released until 13 years later when I informed him of the fact, much to his surprise.
1071 No 1071 This is Not a Love Song 3
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980001422 |
This is Not a Love Song - UK 3" CD single. (Thanks Mick)
Owing to the fact that 3" singles were a failure next to their 5" counterparts in the music shops has led to them becoming popular with fans and collectors.
This interesting single of This is Not a Love Song features 2 versions of the title track, along with 1982's Blue Water and Public image.
1078 No 1078 Warrior, UK 3
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980119523 |
Warrior - UK 3" CD single. (Thanks Mick)
The "edit" version of the song is the single version of the song.
USLS1 is the album version of the song, taken directly from 9.
1079 No 1079 Disappointed, UK 3
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980118120. |
Disappointed, UK 3" CD single. (Thanks Mick).
The two versions of the title track are the 7" mix and the 12" version. The version of Same old story is taken directly from 9.
To my knowledge this is the only PiL 3" single that was released as a picture disc.
1080 No 1080 Don't ask me, UK collectors tin.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012980123100 |
Don't ask me, UK CD single in Ltd Edition collectors tin. (Thanks Mick)
The tin idea was no doubt inspired by the CD release of Metal Box that occured around this time.
The first version of Warrior is the Dave Dorrell remix.
Each disc is individually numbered. The one shown here is numbered 3575.
1097 No 1097 First issue, 1986 UK CD.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 077778747529 |
Public image Ltd, First issue UK CD issue. (Thanks Mick).
1986 saw the first CD issue of PiL's magnificent 1978 debut album.
The artwork has been faithfully reproduced (including the incomplete work-in-progress tracklist on the front of the album)
On the original LP each band member had their own front cover parody, which has also been implemented on the CD release. (Levene & Walker were originally featured on the LP dust-sheet so on the CD release they are presented on one page on the inner sleeve of the CD.)
There has always been confusion over the albums title. The front sleeve says "First issue" while the disc itself says "Public image" Opinion remains divided amongst fans (and band members it would appear!) as to the albums proper title. I suppose it comes down to what you prefer.
1098 No 1098 Second Edition, UK CD 1986.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5012981251222 |
Public image Ltd - Second Edition UK CD. (Thanks Mick).
PiL's legendary Metal Box album first saw a CD release in 1986 as a reissue of Second Edition. (It would be another 4 years before it was released as an actual Metal Box!)
Like the original double LP release, Second Edition features full album lyrics.
An album no collection should be without...
1099 No 1099 Album, UK CD 1986.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 077778746829 |
Album, UK CD issue. 1986. (Thanks Mick).
PiL's hard rock album was released in early 1986 along with the hit single Rise.
An album that features an unlikely mixture of Bill Laswell, Steve Vai, Ginger Baker as well as a plethora of top session talent and would be PiL's last hit album.
1100 No 1100 That What Is Not, UK CD 1992.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 077778626329 |
That What Is Not, UK CD 1992. (Thanks Mick).
To date this was PiL's last album.
Cruel from the album was released as a single in early 1992.
Covered was intended to be the bands 2nd single from the album and promo copies were even pressed, but the release was halted by the Virgin/EMI takeover and subsequent dropping of the band by EMI.
1207 No 1207 Public image - First issue.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099908800824 |
Public image, First issue. 2011 Remastered Edition.
PiL's "First issue" is, to my ears to the only one of the 2011 Remastered Edition releases that actually sounds superior to the original 1986 CD issue. The music sounds louder, clearer and overall seems to have more depth than the original. A very welcome release.
The vinyl artwork has been recreated exactly and the disc itself is a PiL logo picture disc.
1208 No 1208 Second Edition 2011.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099907001529. |
Second Edition, 2011 Remastered Edition.
Artwork is a more faithful reproduction of the vinyl than the first 1986 CD issue of the album.
Disc is also a PIL logo picture disc. The inner booklet features photos as well as full lyrics.
1209 No 1209 Paris au Printemps.

ISMN: 5099908801425 |
Image Publique S.A - Paris au Printemps - 2011 Remastered Edition.
Remastered Edition of PiL's first attempt at a live album.
Issued to combat bootlegs, although the album is a much cruder attempt than most bootlegs of the time.
1210 No 1210 Flowers of Romance 2011.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099908801209. |
Flowers of Romance - 2011 Remastered Edition.

PiL's finest hour as far as I'm concerned!
1211 No 1211 Live in Tokyo 2011.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099908801326. |
Live in Tokyo - 2011 Remastered Edition.
PiL's 2nd live album. Although better executed than the first, is still a pretty ropey excuse for an album.
Inner sleeve features photos and info.
1212 No 1212 This is What Your Want... 2011.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099908801722. |
This is what you want... This is what you get - 2011 Remastered Edition.
Inner sleev features same photo spread as oiriginal LP.
Pretty patchy album. Moments of genius interspersed with moments of cringeworthy 80's sax.
PiL logo picture disc.
1213 No 1213 Album - 2011.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099908800923. |
Album - 2011 Remastered Edition.
The original artwork has been recreated throughout, so gone is the "Compact Disc" sleeve.
PLAY IT LOUD!
1214 No 1214 Happy? - 2011 Remaster.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099908801227. |
Happy? - 2011 Remastered Edition.
An album that was LONG overdue for a rerelease. Probably would never have seen a rerelease had it not been for the recent PiL activity.
Booklet features full lyrics.
1215 No 1215 9 - 2011 Remaster.
Recording Label: Virgin Records. |
ISMN: 5099908801128. |
9 - 2011 Remastered Edition.
Like Happy?, a much overlooked album. It has its' faults, but it also has its' moments. Songs like "Brave New World" and "Like That" are fantastic.
Booklet features photos and full lyrics.

That What Is Not - 2011 Remastered Edition.
PiL's final album for 23 years!
