London, Shepherds Bush Empire - 19.7.2010 (Thanks to Mick & Justin)
Complete audience master recording.
A great quality audience recording from the recent UK tour. A very fine performance from this intimate and famous venue where Lydon has a serious go at the fans in the balcony for not getting involved in the show.
Recorded with a Zoom Digital recorder.

Spain, Festival Internacional de Benicássim - 17.7.2010 (Thanks to Mick)
An excellent mixing desk recording that was broadcast live via the festivals website in July.
A somewhat abbreviated festival setlist sees Rise moving to the mid-way point in the set.
During Open Up the band leave the stage too early, much to Lydon's chagrin, leading to an explosive outburst from the frontman. An outburst that the music press would blow out of all proportion, claiming that the band had subsequently split... "Hello NME, wrong again!" - John Lydon.

Liège, Belgium, Les Ardentes Festival - 11.7.2010. (Thanks Mick)
I made this recording myself after receiving tickets for both Belgian gigs (Les Ardentes & Rock Zottegem the previous day!) as a 25th Birthday present!
I also tried to record the previous days performance but my recorder died after only 40 minutes. I thought the batteries had died, so bought brand new ones for the Les Ardentes show, although this time when the recorder died after 59 minutes I realised that it was a problem with the device itself and not with the batteries. We live and learn...
Trivia aside, it was a good gig, although the previous days show was a lot more memorable and was received more warmly by the crowd.
The quality of the recording is great, it is just a pity that it's incomplete.
Hopefully a complete version was also recorded.

It always seemed to me that festival appearances by any band tend to get bootlegged less than normal gigs, so I wanted to at least document a few of PiL's festival appearances over the summer.
Unfortunately with this one my digital recorder threw in the towel half way through the gig. Extremely frustrating considering what a great show it turned out to be.
Fingers crossed that an alternative, complete version turns up sooner or later, as it was a really great gig!

Bristol, o2 Academy - 20.7.2010. (Thanks Mick & David).
This excellent audience master of last years Bristol gig was recorded by my friend David Chilcott who also filmed PiL's excellent Liverpool gig from the 24th.
The equipment used was an Edirol R09HR digital recorder with external pre-amp microphones.
Much to his annoyance, David was instructed to cease recording or be ejected from the gig by a security bloke whom happened to notice his actions. The recording therefore ends during Lydon's nazi spiel!
Excellent until that point nevertheless.

This audience master was recorded by a friend of mine on his Edirol RO9HR recorder.
He also filmed the entire performance with a Sony HDR-SR8E, then combined the footage with the digital audio recording to make an incredible DVD. I have also created artwork for the DVD which will feature on Herestheartwork.co.uk in the near future.
The audio bootleg itself is a fantastic document of the UK leg of the tour and really captures the atmosphere of the gig.

New York City, Terminal 5 - 18.5.2010. (Thanks Mick)
One of several shows that PiL played in NYC in May of last year.
It sounds like the bootlegger could have taken a bit better care with his levels as the recording is a trifle boomy and appears to clip occasionally.
Aside from this it's another hugely entertaining show from the US leg of the tour and Lydon is in fine form, bantering throughout with the crowd. PiL even perform Annalisa, a song that was only occasionally performed on the tour.
There's a fade-out after Religion and a fade-in before Public image.
There's a final fade-out after Open Up.

Normally I refuse to have anything to do with anyone who sells bootlegs or enourages the exploitation of bootlegs in any way. However, in this case I made an exception... A bloke contacted me by email to say that he had seen my site and that he'd been involved with the Sziget Festivàl in some technical capacity, and that he'd managed to procure soundboard recordings from many of the performances. Ultimately he wanted to sell me the gig. Normally I would ignore such an offer and wait for the recording to appear on the trading circuit. However, I decided to make an exception owing to the fact that aside from some bootlegs that had turned up from the States, the European shows didn't seem to be turning up on bootleg in the way that I had anticipated...
It seems to have been a wise decision though, considering that the show has so far not turned up on the trading circuit or on the internet.
So I paid the guy his price and in return got this recording... It seems to be complete. There are no cuts or fades and the sound quality is perfect. There is also a good level of crowd noise, which adds greatly to the enjoyment of the show.

This is the same recording as 1015, but I have taken the time to create much better artwork for it. I threw the old artwork together within a few minutes (and it shows!)
This is a full audience recording of the show and it's an excellent performance!
A few songs from this gig were also broadcast live online.
1094 No 1094 Brooklyn 2010.
Recording Label: ? |
ISMN: ? |
New York City, Brooklyn, Music Hall of Williamsburg - 19.5.2010. (Thanks Mick & Sebastian)
This recording is an incomplete audience recording of the gig. The guy whom I did the trade with was quite open about the fact that he would only part with an incomplete version of the gig (hard-ball trader!), therefore the final encore, Open Up is missing.
Although unfortunate, it doesn't change the fact that it's another great gig! The quality could be a bit sharper, but it's more than acceptable.
There is a bit of clipping and handling noise during This is Not a Love Song until the bootlegger sorts his levels out.
Tonights performance again features Annalisa.
NOTE: Apparently this gig was also filmed for use in a forthcoming documentary, which means that a complete soundboard recording should also be in existence. Whether or not the complete video/audio of this ever becomes available remains to be seen...

Bradford, UK, Bingley Music Live Festival - 4.9.2010. (Thanks Mick & John C.)
Firstly let me state that this is not the piss poor recording that sounds like it was recorded on a mobile phone that has been doing the rounds since last year.
I've been waiting ages for a decent version of this gig to turn up... I got talking to a guy at the recent Preston gig who told me he had a good quality version of the Bradford festival appearance and agreed to send it to me in return for a copy of the Preston gig. To be honest I didn't expect to hear from the guy again, but the disc actually arrived in my mailbox so BIG thanks to John C.
The quality is a million times better than the other unlistenable version of the gig, although it does sound a bit distant and muffled in places. During Warrior for example the sound gets muffled and stays that way for a good 5 minutes.
It's an entertaining one to listen to, not least for Lydon's berating of some tosser who keeps chucking beer at him.
A great show to add to the collection.
