New York City, Roseland Ballroom - 28.9.1982.  (Thanks Mick & Jack)

Recorded using a Grundig Stenorette-2020 recorder with 30 minute steno-cassette.

This tape is a very nice little find, despite being incomplete.

The chap whom sent me this recording, recorded it himself with a small hand held dictaphone type machine, which explains why the quality is not that great. Nevertheless it's an amazing find as no other recording of PiL's first ever 1982 gig has so far turned up, at least to my knowledge.

Most of Lydon's comments are pretty indiscernible, although after Public image he does ask the crowd; "Not bad for a few days rehearsal, huh?"

The band seem to play well enough, although the bass is inaudible and the drums (especially the cymbals) are a little too prominent in the mix. There's also a lot of crowd noise which helps a great deal in obscuring Lydon's comments.

The recording ends very abruptly during Mad Max, which is extremely unfortunate.

There are cuts during Death Disco & Religion.
