Chippenham, UK, Goldiggers Club - 27.9.1987 (Thanks to Mick)
That legendary Rock 'n' Roll Metropolis that is Chippenham plays host to a Public image Ltd in fantastic form and as a result we are left with this fantastic bootleg! Unfortunately it is incomplete, which was probably the work of some dirty bastard trader who kept the uncut version for himself. From speaking to someone who was at the gig I know for certain that the band encored with Holidays in the Sun and This is Not a Love Song.
Should a complete version be out there it would be one of the best from the Happy? tour. The band are in good shape and Lydon is full of put downs and sarcasm.
The recording ends with a storming version of Public image, on which Lydon hands the mic out to the crowd to deliver a few lines.
During The Body Lydon encourages the female attendees to flash some skin, then complains at the end of the song; "Fucks sake, all I've seen is two bald heads!"
The quality makes a dramatic improvement during Hard Times and thankfully stays that way for the remainder of the set.
There is a cut between Low Life and Home.
There is a cut between The Body and Round.
Note; This gig is often mis-spelled on lists as "Golddiggers" or "Gold Diggers" - the proper name of the club was Goldiggers!
